The Duomo in Parma
The Duomo is what the locals like to call the cathedral. It stands on the Piazza Duomo and is a pretty impressive building. It was completed at the turn of the 12th century and we were told that it was built in a Romanesque style. I like the 16th century frescoes inside and the ceiling paintings in particular. You should really go here - and when you're inside, don't forget to look up.

The Baptistery
The Baptistery is on the Piazza Duomo and is close to many of the most famous landmarks of Parma, like the cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. The Strada Cavour and the Piazza Garibaldi are also close by. Anyway, the Baptistery, or the Battistero as the Italians like to call it, is a gigantic octangonal marble building, built 800 years ago. It took many years to finish though, because marble was in short supply. The inside in breathtaking and filled with frescoes and reliefs.

Walking around the public parks in Parma
On a sunny day in Parma, and let's face it there are a lot of them, I can't think of anything that could possibly be nicer than walking aronnd one of the parks, like the Parco Ducale (Giardino Pubblico), near to the Palazzo Pilotta. Lots of flowers, lots of seats, lots of statues and there is even a pond thrown in, with its very own island. Very idyllic.
